CAERLEON VISIT BY KS3

This week, on May 23rd our KS3 history groups visited Caerleon in Wales, the site of an ancient Roman Fortress that was built as a permanent base for a Roman Legion. This meant it housed up to 6000 roman legionary soldiers at any one time!

They had a good look around and saw the 2000 year old remains of  high status Roman man, plenty of roman artefacts and went into the Barrack rooms where they learned all about a roman legionaries life - even if they were fitted in more than 8 to a room!

They saw the sort of weaponry they used, and even had chance to hold a roman sword!

Afterwards they got to go outside and look at the ampitheatre on the site and test out the acoustics!

KS3 looking at the roman sarcophagus - the remains are over 2000 years old!

KS3 students looking at 2000 year old remains of a Roman noble - I don't think he's going to start moving after all this time no matter how hard you look!

And this is a Roman sword! - the guide demonstrating the weapons.

And this... is what you use to tackle an enemy of Rome!
