VISIT TO CONCRETE PIPE MANUFACTURING

As part of their vocational days, KS4 have been making visits to industry this term. They have been to Avon and Wessex Motor Factory, Coates Inks (Sun Chemicals) and to the Concrete Pipe Manufacturing section of Hanson Aggregates.

The Students were very impressed by the sheer range and size of the machinery involved in making the concrete pipes. Everyone was quite surprised at how big they were and how many needed to be made. They were shown the whole process and even got some of the machines in action.

Below is a small movie clip they made of one of the machines that shaped the Concrete pipes. Press the play button to get it to load in.

KS4 having a meeting at CPM and discussing the difficult business of how many concrete pipe can one place produce and how many could anyone need! (The answer - A lot!)

One of the shaping machines in action. It was also important to see how necessary the high visibility safety gear was. Can't afford to make mistakes in a manufacturing environment.

KS4 with the pipes behind them giving a faint clue as to how many needed to be produced. This was only one stacked area out of the whole yard.
