KS3 Geography Field Trip LYME REGIS

On Wednesday 22 March KS3A enjoyed a geography field trip to Lyme Regis and Charmouth on Dorset's Heritage Jurassic coastline. The group did not discover any fossil dinosaurs but had fun looking for smaller fossils (ammonites and belemites) along the beach.

We also view the extensive "Coast Protection Scheme"  - a multi million pound engineering project aimed at stabilising and protecting the coastline and save Lyme Regis from destructive landslines and coastal erosion.

In addition to finding out new things we also enjoyed a fish and chip lunch!

The KS3 group make it to Lyme Regis on a murky Wednesday morning

It's a bit windy in Lyme Regis - but the group make it there safe and sound and even get a little sunshine (and I'd just like to say it rained ALL day back at school that day!)

"Here's one I found earlier!" They may not have had a lot of luck on the beach, but that didn't stop them fossil hunting in walls.

You can't go to the sea-side without having fish and chips for lunch! Fossil-hunting is hard work!

Fossil hunting is hungry work - with all the walking up and down the beach they earned their Fish and Chip lunch.

The Coast Protection Scheme, mid construction. Looks pretty impressive already.

The new Coast Protection Scheme in progress. By the next time we go back it should be completed.
