| The SNAP Mencap Photo Competition |
 |
A group of pupils from Fosse Way School entered the SNAP national Photo competition run by Mencap this year. Imagine our surprise and how pleased we were when we heard that not only had two of our pupils been Highly Commended in their categories but one of our entrants had actually won her category!
The Winning photo is shown here, taken by Sinead Wenn of Zyolela Chanda. (Larger versions availble in the Gallery)

This photo by Josh Beattie of Tom Calley was Highly Commended,

As was this photo of Andy Ledbury and Marc taken by Ben Ponsford.

As a result of this, the successful photographers and their subjects were invited up to a special presentation at the Victoria and Albert Museum where the pictures were being displayed.
The group went up from Fosse Way accompanied by Miss Dursley and Miss Ladd and found that they were rubbing shoulders with the stars!
Sinead was presented with a digital camera by Steps Star Lisa Scott-Lee for her winning picture of Zyolela.
The evening started with our prize winners walking down the gallery where their photographs, now enlarged and framed, were displayed. Here they were introduced and photographed - by professional photographers this time - with Lord Rix of Mencap. Next they were presented with a copy of the book Understanding Us, Volume Two, a book featuring the winning entries of 2004 and 2005 plus a pack of postcards featuring some of the winning photographs. Everyone then mingled until the opening speeches
by the Minister of Disabled People, Anne McGuire and Lord Rix and then each winner was called to collect their prizes. The singer Will Young, Dr Who star Christopher Ecclestone and Lisa Scott-Lee from Steps presented Fuji camera's to the winners and afterwards were more than willing to sign autographs and have their pictures taken with out pupils and staff. Everyone really enjoyed the trip to London, including the parents and staff who accompanied our winners and it was a fantastic day to mark a fantastic achievement.
