Cafe
Longfellow’s Cafe has been developed by the school to provide its students with a genuine business where they can learn and practice real-life skills.
As well as the skills specific to hospitality and catering, students learn about working with the public and develop their social skills.
It is open to the whole community and students help to prepare food, serve customers and discover what is involved in running a business in a hands-on fashion giving them valuable experience for their future.
They learn skills through practical experience, supported by staff who have experience in making sure they can access everything to their full potential.
As well as a relaxed ambience the cafe also provides space for students to demonstrate their creativity in art and craft exhibitions and has wi-fi access.
Produce grown in the school garden will be used as much as possible when in season and will also be available for sale at the cafe.
Students were involved at all stages of the project development including product design for the menu, customer research and coming up with the name.
Cafe manager Debbie Lockley has a wide experience in catering and is looking forward to helping students make a success of the business.
The cafe is already becoming a popular drop-in centre for the community. It is open throughout the school holidays.
