Fosse Way School offers a broad and balanced curriculum aimed at creating an educational experience that prepares pupils for adult life. The curriculum offer also conforms to national government expectations and the school regularly features amongst the top schools in the country for pupil progress according to the Department for Children, Schools and Families national data (2009 top 5% of all schools).
Our pupils represent a very wide range of abilities and in response the curriculum provides a number of pathways that lead to a variety of post school destinations.
A strong emphasis upon a vocational approach to our curriculum creates opportunities for our pupils to develop those skills which will be important to them in adult life. For some pupils this may mean a focus upon independence skills whilst for others academic qualifications provide the key to access post 16 Further Education courses.
Some of our pupils receive part of their learning at mainstream schools or Further Education colleges.
At near-by Norton Hill School, ( a comprehensive school judged by OFSTED as being outstanding) we maintain satellite provision enabling some of our students with Asperger’s Syndrome to access mainstream courses through support from our staff. Our students achieved excellent GCSE results at the end of last summer.
More recently we have opened a classroom at the Royal United Hospital (Project SEARCH). The teacher and job coaches based at the hospital enable students to experience a number of internships aimed at full time employment by the end of their Project SEARCH year.
