School Council
The School Council is made up of student representatives voted in from each tutor group and advocates for those groups who are unable to represent themselves. The School Council take issues and suggestions from their groups to the Council for discussion, and then make requests and recommendations to the Chair, Mick Ellison who takes their views to the Senior Management team.
The School Council is the student's most direct route in having a say, an influence and a personal investment in the school. It has proved to be a very positive experience for the pupils and the staff with everyone taking a keen interest in how it develops.
The school council is trialling an interactive system called Wall wisher to record suggestions and discussions. A link to this initiative can be found below

SCHOOL COUNCIL END OF YEAR REPORT 2010-2011
School Council met regularly this year to voice student concerns and suggest improvements across the school. Students have done an excellent job in identifying and reporting problems and coming up with ideas. For example students raised concerns about the state of the sensory room which resulted in a much improved room with further improvements to it planned.
Students throughout the school were asked to think of ways to improve lunchtimes. School Council were particularly concerned about making sure that all students had fun things to do during wet lunchtimes. School Council secured £500 to resource wet break activities for all classes and consulted with them to decide how to use these funds. They also ensured that the wet break activity rooms set up were resourced and ran efficiently. Staff responded to requests to run and supervise a variety of lunchtime clubs. Students are always very grateful to these willing volunteers who give up their lunchtimes. Individual Students were also active in running chess, dance and a website building club.
In February students took part in elections for the UK Youth Parliament. Post 16 students set up the polling booth in the library and ran the school ballot. Secondary students used PSHE lessons to prepare for the election and explore the candidates’ manifestos before voting. In July a group of Post 16 students attended the BANES Young Parliament held at Bath Spa University. The theme was on improving the Environment and students gave an excellent presentation on student involvement in recycling at Fosse Way. They proposed that similar student initiatives be taken up by other schools.
Throughout the year School Council members worked with Helene Jewell an Advocacy Project Worker from ‘Off the Record’ along with other young people from across BANEs to produce a DVD on transitions to adulthood. Our students played an active role in the making of the film. The film was premiered at the Little Theatre in Bath in July and very well received. Well done to all students involved and Pascale Beck for her help in supporting students throughout the project.
