Pupil Premium and Grants

Pupil Premium Grant

The pupil premium is a grant given to schools to close the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers, and to support pupils with parents in the armed forces (this part of it is also known as the ‘service premium’).

Schools receive money for each pupil of compulsory school age who fits the eligibility criteria. Free School Meal eligibility forms a large part of this allocation but there are other criteria too, such as parents in the armed forces, Adoption status and Local authority in Care.

As part of the conditions of funding, school must produce a report and have a published strategy detailing how the funds are spent and their impact.

Primary Sports Premium Grant

The Primary and Sports Premium Grant is allocated to Primary schools at a set amount per primary aged pupil. The premium must be used to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, for the benefit of primary-aged pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.
