There have significant changes to Free School Meals which come into effect in September 2026. There will now be two levels of eligibility.
From September 2026, all pupils from households receiving Universal Credit will be eligible for free school meals (FSM), regardless of their household’s annual income (before, only pupils from households who received Universal Credit and had a yearly income of £7,400 or less were eligible).
As a result, from 2026/27, there will be 2 categories of benefits-based FSM:
- Targeted FSM: based on the old threshold (pupils in households receiving Universal Credit with an annual income of £7,400 or less). This level can allow the school to receive pupil premium funding, and other grants.
- Expanded FSM: covering pupils who do not qualify for targeted FSM but whose households receive Universal Credit
We strongly recommend that you apply for free school meals if you have Universal Credit even if you feel that you were not eligible before.

Fosse Way School contracts Aspens to run our onsite kitchen. Aspens has a commitment to providing healthy options and a well balanced diet that is also delicious and attractive to eat with its school dinners. Their info pack to parents is linked below.
Fosse Way school has the benefit of the fact that lunch is prepared on the premises and served in the school dining halls. Parents order school dinners on Swift Kitchen by the 9.30am of the day before they want them. Dinner money should be paid in advance through Swift Kitchen and it should not go into a negative balance. The cost of a school meal is £2.60 for junior pupils and £3.00 for senior pupils per day.
Parents can change their order at any time before the cut off on 9.30am. If their child is unwell, they will need to inform the office before 8.30am on the day of absence and remember to cancel the dinner otherwise the meal ordered will already be in production and they will still be charged.
Arrangements can be made for pupils requiring a special diet for health for religious reasons and a vegetarian meal is always available. Allergy menus are shared above, and there are also custom menus for those with specific medical needs which as shared with those individuals directly.
Please ensure that any drinks are stored in unbreakable containers, no glass bottles or cans please.
All pupils should remain on the premises during lunch times.
The school is also a participant in the Schools Fruit and Vegetable Scheme
Our eligible pupils receive free fruit and vegetables which they can have every day at school with the hope that they will try and experience new healthy foods and establish a habit of eating them in the future.
The school has also opted in to the Free School Milk that the LEA can provide for those aged between 5-7 and the group that is eligible receives a carton of milk each day at school. Other parents can arrange for milk to be bought in.
